Hallelujah! Part 3
As stated in entry one under this Hallelujah! moniker, women are always on my mind, and I am smitten with just about every woman I see; finding the beauty in each of them, whether heavy or a home wrecker.
In this entry, I continue to simply throw out there some gorgeous female eye candy, at least to me, and I am focusing this time, on some of my favourite female musicians.
Once again, You can check the moral high road at the door for this entry...
not necessary.
not necessary.
This is all about the visual, savvy?
That said, here is some eye candy. Enjoy!
Kylie Minogue |
DAMN! What a way to start - Kylie! OMG, I love you! Since she started as an 18 year with a revamp of the song Locomotion in the mid-80s, she has been a gorgeous benefit to the musical world. A double-threat as well, starring in a soap opera in Australia for years. While you girls and go on about the men of Australia, I can go on about one of the Outbacks biggest female exports. Besides, she has also given me two or three of the most amazing...
dance songs over the years. Get your minds out of the gutter - I would never tell if that actually happened. ;]

Melissa Auf De Maur - Bassist for Hole, Smashing Pumpkins |
When Hole was in need of a new bassist after the death of Kristen Pfaff, Billy Corgan recommended Auf der Maur to Courtney Love. Auf der Maur, at first turned the job down, but later she reconsidered. Auf der Maur joined Hole two weeks before the Reading Festival and recorded the album Celebrity Skin with the band, ultimately leaving on October 20, 1999, after her 5-year contract with the band had come to an end. Following that, she was picked up by Smashing Pumpkins for their final two studio albums prior to their very public demise after Jimmy Chamberlain was busted for the fatal dose of heroin he gave to John Melvoin (tour keyboardist of the band and brother to Wendy and Lisa from Prince's band the Revolution). Besides the varied collaborations she has participated in, Auf der Maur is also an experienced photographer. She was a photography major, specializing in self-portraiture at Concordia University, when she was invited to join Hole in 1994. Her photos have been published in Nylon, Bust, Mastermind, and American Photo, among other magazines. Her photos were also in the exhibition 'The Kids are Alright at Sotheby's' in New York City along with photos by Yelena Yemchuk. She put together a solo exhibition in 2001, under the name of Channels. It mostly featured shots of Auf der Maur's life on the road, with a recurring TV theme and shots of hotel TV screens, hence the name Channels. The exhibition opened September 9, 2001, at Brooklyn's Secret Gallery, but was shut down after the September 11 attacks.
The Corrs |
Take a look at these three Irish sisters! Impressed yet? It is like walking into a candy store or in my case a music shop, and suddenly being overwhelmed by the amazing choices. I honestly dont know where I would start with these three. Absolutely gorgeous.
The Corrs' album, 1997's Talk On Corners, was produced by Glen Ballard, who was respected for his collaboration with Alanis Morissette. The Corrs also collaborated with Carole Bayer Sager, Oliver Leiber, Rick Nowels, and Billy Steinberg. The album met with lukewarm responses and was only successful in Ireland. They performed a special remixed version of the tracks from their first two albums in a televised St. Patrick's Day appearance at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1998. After the performance, the band re-released Talk on Corners, with new remixes of "What Can I Do?", "So Young" and "Runaway". The special edition topped the charts worldwide, and again reached multi-platinum status in the UK and Australia. They have been on hiatus for some time while three of the members raise families. Keep up the good work Ireland! Your women-folk are very NICE!

Lita Ford - Guitarist, The Runaways and solo work |
A couple of years ago they finally made the movie about the life and times of The Runaways, concentrating almost exclusively on Cherie Currie and Joan Jett. Lita was the guitarist for that band.
The Runaways were signed to Mercury Records in 1976 and their debut album, The Runaways, was released shortly after. The band toured the U.S. and played numerous sold out shows. They headlined shows with opening acts such as Cheap Trick, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Van Halen. The documentary Edgeplay: A film about The Runaways, directed by former Runaway bassist Vicki Blue (aka Victory Tischler-Blue ) revealed that each girl patterned herself after her idols: Currie patterned her look after David Bowie, Jett after Suzi Quatro and Keith Richards, Ford as a cross between Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and Jeff Beck, West after Queen drummer Roger Taylor, and Fox after Kiss bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons.
In the late 80s, Lita was going to marry Black Sabbath guitar legend, Toni Iommi but that plan was toasted after it was discovered that while on tour she had gotten busy with Billy Idol. Poor Toni. At least he can say he was with her in her heydey.
Sass Jordan |
Sass' first band was called Sweet Thunder or possibly her first band was Blue Max. She made her name "swingin' a mean bass" and singing lead with late '70s Montreal New Wave quartet The Pinups. She originally requested her name be "Flash Gordan" but was shocked to learn that this name was already under copyright by a little-known party. She embarked on a solo career in the mid-'80s, biding her time initially as she honed her writing skills by contributing material to recording projects by a number of high profile Quebec artists and by handling backing vocals for a variety of acts, most notably The Box. Between forays to New York to scope out the scene there, she became one of the first veejays in Canada as host and interviewer on a Montreal video show, the precursor to MusiquePlus.
She was also short listed as a replacement lead singer when Van Halen and DLR parted ways in 1985. Not bad for a girl living in Canada. She was damn hot in the day and that was made even hotter by her ability to rock it out!
Belinda Carlisle - Lead singer of The Go-Go's; survivor of Rock and Rolls extremes |
Belinda Carlisle was one of my first crushes in music, and as the front woman for the all-girl punk outfit, The GO-Gos, she was a hot pioneer. We are all aware of the contributions made by the band. And years later we learned of all the excesses they experienced as well. The fact that she is still alive is remarkable; the fact that she did it while maintaining her beauty for all those years is utterly remarkable.
The videos done for her second album Heaven On Earth, were stunning, and reinforced my feelings that I was truly smitten with her. Kudos, B!
Sheryl Crow |
Diggetty! Man, I have the hots for Sheryl. I have since I saw her second video, All I Wanna Do, from the album Tuesday Night Music Club.
Crow toured with Michael Jackson as a backup vocalist during his Bad World Tour from 1987–1989, and often performed with Jackson on "I Just Can't Stop Loving You." She also recorded background vocals for performances from various established artists including Stevie Wonder, Belinda Carlisle and Don Henley. Crow also sang in the short-lived Steven Bochco drama, Cop Rock, in 1990. The following year, she performed "Hundreds of Tears," which was included in the Point Break soundtrack, and sang a duet with Kenny Loggins on the track "I Would Do Anything", from his album Leap of Faith.
I am always catching myself picturing Sheryl and Kylie, getting friendly.... ok enough of that. Whew!
Emily Haines - Metric |
Hell, I dont know if it's her or her musical ability that makes her so sexy to me. Most likely a combination of both, but damn can she write! Besides the success and great work she has put out with Metric, she has also worked with one of my favourite groups, The Crystal Method, writing and singing Come Back Clean on their third studio album, Divided By Night. An incredible song and an incredible lady!
Sarah Maclachlan |
When she first broke out in 1988 with the album Touch, and the single Vox, I thought she looked a bit goofy. Like a kid who has to grow into their looks. And so she did, every year becoming more accomplished as a musician, writer, and artist, and becoming the absolutely stunning woman she is these days. Besides loving her music and the evolution she has gone thru in her writing, I truly find her to be beautiful.
Chantal Kreviazuk |
Chantal is gorgeous, and I am seriously pissed at Raine Maida for stealing her away before I could ask her to marry me. I fell quickly for her after she released the singles, Wayne, and God Made Me off of her first album, Under These Rocks And Stones.
Besides the ongoing solo career she has modeled for national lines such as Clairol, and as a lyricist and writer check out how much game she has. She has penned songs for Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, The Veronicas, Eva Avila, Rex Goudie, Mandy Moore, Hilary Duff, David Cook, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Cosgrove. Simply amazing, and such a looker!
Liz Phair |
Liz is an absolute powder-keg of sexual empowerment. Her first album in 1993, Exile in Guyville was self-produced by Phair and Brad Wood. The album received uniformly excellent reviews. The album received significant critical acclaim for its very blunt, honest lyrics and for the music itself, a hybrid of indie rock and pop. The album established Phair's penchant for exploring sexually explicit lyrics. She is best known for the single Supernova, off her second album Whip-Smart.
Ok, so lets get this straight, she's gorgeous, horny; a guitarist and songwriter?? SOLD! Im jumping into the pool right now!
Shania Twain |
Finally this week, I come to probably my all time favourite woman music. Shania! While her music may not be featured in my favourite genre, her live shows and the catchy hooks have made me a fan of her more uptempo work. Having Mutt Lang of AC/DC fame, to produce the majority of her anthology prior to their very public divorce, was an obvious amazing opportunity. Mutt, what the hell were you thinking you idiot. How does one man land a woman as stunning as this beauty, and piss it away on a woman no where near the level of gorgeous as Shania. Men are idiots and this guy proved it...
Shania is HOT as Georgia asphalt. I can think of nothing else to add. I am just going to stare at her for a while. Of course I always thought she could have done well with the last name McNair. Sigh...
______
Well that's it for this entry. More to come soon -
Cheers all!
Badstone Music, out!
